Heinrich’s been passionate about food since he can remember. At age 13 he cut his teeth in the catering industry and by 16 he was carving up steaks and training ‘grillers’ in the Spur group around the city.

Born and Bred in Cape Town, Heinrich enrolled for a chef’s course at the Zevenwacht Estate and graduated with a culinary skillset that also included wine and cheese making.

After a two-year stint as Head Chef for Café Paradiso, where he met his lovely wife Christina, Heinrich sought to broaden his horizons and in 2004 joined the eccentric crew at Madame Zingara as Sous Chef under the watchful eye of founder, Richard Griffin before jetting abroad in search of experience and inspiration.

His first job abroad was in London as Sous Chef for the Mediterranean Kitchen group. Shortly after he was head hunted by Lorenzo Schiaffini to join Italian celebrity chef, Aldo Zilli at his Soho restaurant and also opened the stylish, Zilli Brasserie in Brighton. Two years later and hungrier than ever, he joined Jamie Oliver’s Italian Restaurant Group where he worked with Jamie’s River Cafe chefs and assisted in the training staff and establishing best practices for new restaurants opening in Cambridge, Oxford and Dubai.


Heinrich and his wife returned to South Africa soon after the birth of their son and over the next decade, set up and managed the kitchens for the Madame Zingara Group of restaurants: The Bombay Bicycle Club, Side Walk Café, Café Mozart and again at Café Paradiso as Executive Chef.

His last venture before launching House of H was setting up the Company’s Garden Restaurant – a project which gave him a platform to experiment in his true passion… creating authentic local food.

And the self service experience allows the customer to determine the route their journey through our menu will take. We believe that each of our customers have their own set of tastes and the self.
